FAQs

What's included in your RV site rate?

  • Basic rate for each site includes 1 RV, 1 vehicle, 2 adults and 2 kids over 5. Kids under 5 are always no-charge with a maximum of 6 people per site. Extra adults and kids over 5 are $4/night.

What is check-in and check-out time?

  • For RVs, check-in time is 2pm and check-out is 11am. We do not typically allow early check-ins as we must heavily water the grass between guests to keep up with our dry summer weather.
  • For Cabins, check-in time is 3pm and check-out is 11am.

Are your sites full hookup?

  • Yes! In the main park loop, all sites have power, water and sewer. Some sites are 50/30 while most sites are 30 amp.
  • In the lower property, we have 8 “River Sites” which are dry camping- no hookups of any kind. These sites are for small RVs only, maximum 25' and afford guests a beautiful view of the mountains right beside the Wallowa River.

How can I check availability or make a reservation?

  • By clicking “book now” on the top menu of our website. If your dates are unavailable, we keep a wait list so it is recommended you give us a call or email. Likewise if your dates are flexible or you would simply like help booking: 541-432-8800

Do you have pull-through sites?

  • Yes, but only two, sites #35 and #28. The majority of our spaces are back-in and some can be a little challenging. If you would like help picking your site, please give us a call 541-432-8800.

How big are your sites and can you accommodate big rigs?

  • Each of our sites is a different length, ranging from 35-70'. Some are more open with room for slides on all sides whereas others may have trees that can challenge your setup. When booking with our online system, you can see a picture of the site by selecting it on the map. Simply click on the site you wish to see and scroll down, the picture will appear below the map.
  • We do not recommend booking with us if your RV is longer than 40' due to how narrow our park loop is and how challenging it can be to back in when the park is full. You should be able to consider yourself an expert at maneuvering your rig if it is larger than 36' in our park.

Do you have WIFI?

  • Yes, although certain areas of the park have better reception than others, such as the sites closer to the office and main residence.
  • Our WIFI is fine for email and can be good enough to stream movies but it may get bogged down in high season.
  • We do not recommend guests rely on our WIFI for work, especially in high season, as it can get slow and sometimes it goes out altogether if we have a storm.
  • Across the street from us is a coffee shop which has very reliable WIFI if guests wish to do some work.

Can I get satellite reception?

  • Many of our guests bring tailgate satellite dishes and, increasingly, Starlink. Guests have had good luck in the following sites: 1-6, 59, 57, 36-48.

How is the cellphone service?

  • The short answer is...unknown. It was great up until May of 2026 when T-Mobile bought US Cellular, then our signal disappeared altogether. It has since come and gone a few times. We are told it will be back for 2027 after some infrastructure upgrades but in the meantime we have been relying on WIFI calling which is a feature most phones offer. Joseph, 5 miles north, has great service; we hope we will soon too!

Do you allow pets?

  • From Friday of Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day, pet dogs (including emotional support dogs) are not allowed except for monthly guests. ADA defined service dogs welcome all times. This policy is strict and failure to read or respect this will result in you being turned away at check-in with the forfeiture of your deposit.
  • Before Memorial Weekend and after Labor Day, well-behaved dogs, except pit bulls & pit bull mixes, are limited to 2 per site at a fee of $4/night. Scooping is mandatory.
  • Cats are allowed all months.

Are there any off-leash areas or dog parks nearby?

  • Due to abundant wildlife, there are no off-leash areas at Wallowa Lake. Dogs must be walked on a 6-foot fixed leash and kept away from deer! During fawn season, June through July, our local deer are very attentive in protecting their young and many dogs (and their owners trying to protect them) have been injured by unprovoked deer attacks because of this. Your dog may be harmless and friendly but for their own protection, they must not be allowed to approach deer.

Are there any dog boarding facilities nearby?

  • Yes! Paws and Claws kennel in Joseph has very reasonable rates and offers a good option for those wishing to visit some of our more popular attractions, such as the Tramway and Railriders, which do not allow dogs.

Do you have boat parking?

  • Yes! We have designated parking for extra overnight vehicles and boats at $10/night.
  • During the quiet season of May, when the fishing is best, we also allow our guests to park their boat in the site beside them (if availability allows) at no charge.
  • During busy holidays, parking fills up so it is advised to let us know in advance if you will be bringing an extra vehicle or boat.

Can I leave my boat at the marina?

  • Yes, reservations for dock space may be made directly with the Wallowa Lake Marina, however, overnight parking for boats in the marina parking lot is currently not allowed due to State Park policy.

Do you have a clubhouse or any special amenities for groups?

  • Yes, Cabin At The River doubles as our clubhouse and offers a nice event space for groups to host potlucks and play games.
  • We also offer a discount of 15% for bookings of 10+ sites made under a single reservation and a generous discount on our clubhouse if it is available.
  • Groups should contact us as early as possible to make their arrangements as we do fill up!

How far in advance can I book?

  • Reservations may be made a year in advance (351 days online, 365 in person) and require a 50% deposit with a non-refundable cancellation fee of 50% of the deposit. Online bookings are limited to 7 days. If you wish to reserve a longer stay, please call.
  • For those wishing to book during high season (mid-June through mid-August), it is recommended to book as early as possible. If your dates aren't available, we recommend you email or call to be put on our waitlist.
  • For those wishing to book a long stay (month+) or for large groups, it is recommended to let us know as soon as possible, even if it's more than a year in advance.
  • For the shoulder seasons (May through mid-June, mid-August and late September) same-day reservations are often possible!

What if I need to change or cancel my reservation?

  • Reservation changes are allowed within the same calendar year with at least 24 hours notice at no additional charge. We do not accept shortened stays at check in. Reservations cannot be moved to the following year.
  • Cancellations with 14 or more days notice will forfeit 50% of the deposit. This means that if your reservation total was $120 and your deposit was $60, then $30 would be non-refundable.
  • Cancellations within 14 days forfeit entire deposit. No exceptions made for weather, smoke, illness, or failure to read our policies prior to booking. No refunds for early departures.

How can I guarantee I will not be moved if I want a certain site?

  • A reservation guarantees you a site, not necessarily a specific one. Circumstance sometimes requires that we move people, especially for 1-3 night stays. If you are adamant about the site you chose, please let us know and will we make sure you do not get moved. If you prefer a different site than the ones available, also let us know.

Do you allow tents?

  • No. Sleeping tents are NOT permitted anywhere within the park.
  • Floorless shade canopies are okay
  • Truck-top/car-top tents, teardrop tent additions and pop-out tents are also welcome (if it's on wheels it's okay!)

Is your park kid-friendly?

  • Yes! We love hosting families but for the enjoyment of everyone, some basic rules apply, especially for kids with bikes: Bikes/scooters must travel with the flow of traffic around the loop (i.e., follow the arrows) and should never try to pass an RV coming through the park or go around one who's stopped as they may be backing up. Bikes and scooters must also not cut through sites, landscaped areas or ride on the boardwalk in front of the restrooms, and must follow maximum park speed of 5mph.

Do you allow generators:

  • No, generators are not permitted unless there is a power outage. River Sites guests are encouraged to use solar and enjoy the cool evening breeze that flows down the river to refresh warm trailers for a comfortable night. Those requiring A/C should book a full hook-up spot in the main park.

Do you have restrooms, showers and laundry?

  • Yes, men's and women's restrooms are located in the center of the main park. Showers are coin-operated, open 24/7
  • A laundromat is also located in the same building. Detergent and coins may be obtained at the office.

Do you allow campfires?

  • Propane fire bowls are allowed at all times. Rental fire bowls are available at the office for $10/day without or $25/day, with propane included
  • Wood-burning fires are not permitted at any time

What's the weather going to be?

  • Due to the unpredictability of the mountains, we recommend preparing for any kind of weather in all months. At 4,400' elevation, while days are often warm and pleasant, nights are most always cold. May- June is Springtime, and one might easily expect days of rain (and even occasional snow) mixed with days of sunshine and temperatures in the 60's and low 70's. Surprisingly, in late April and May we often enjoy less rain than early June, with many days of warm sun. July through August we can usually expect temperatures in the mid 70's and sometimes 80's with occasional thunder storms, although, true to the mountains, it has actually snowed on the 4th of July before! Very rarely do we hit 90 degrees at the lake, although Joseph, 5 miles north, is often 10 degrees warmer than us and can feel quite hot. Due to our geography between steep mountains, we get several hours less sun than the valley. September brings more stable and cooler conditions, where we can expect dry weather and low to mid 70's just about every day of the month. Late September is more likely to bring some rain storms but these rarely last more than 1-2 days.

Do you have bears?

  • Yes, we have black bears and brown colored black bears called “cinnamon bears” (they are not grizzly bears). They are nothing to be concerned with as they are nocturnal and rarely seen by guests, although sometimes they pay a visit to our dumpster. We recommend all guests keep their trash in at night, not just for bears but for deer, fox and raccoons who will also come to make a mess of it.

Are the deer tame?

  • While they may seem tame, our local mule deer are still wild animals. For generations, they have become accustomed to people and like to hang about and sometimes beg for a snack. Do not feed them! Human food causes deer to have diarrhea which makes them weak and less likely to survive the winter.

Where can I ride my bike?

  • A bike is a great way to get around at the lake where the only traffic is local and the speed limit on all roads is 25mph or less.
  • Everything at Wallowa Lake Village may be accessed within a 1 mile radius, making walking or biking a great option.
  • Since the State Park marina and swim beach now charges a fee for parking, a bike is a great way to enjoy these areas cost-free.
  • Biking to Joseph along the highway is not recommended due to how narrow the highway is and how busy it is. People do it, but it is harrowing.

How far are you from the Wallowa Lake Tramway?

  • Park At The River is right across the street from the famous Wallowa Lake Tramway!

How far are you from the Wallowa Lake State Park?

  • Park At The River is ¾ mile from the Wallowa Lake State Park swim beach. The campground is located across the river from us.

How far are you from Wallowa Lake?

  • Park At The River is located ½ mile from Wallowa Lake, an easy walk.

Can I fish in the river inside the park?

  • Yes, there are a few pools where you can catch fish, although early in the season the water is running fast and high and you are less likely to be successful. Most people fish the lake delta for calmer waters.
  • In late August through September, you can see bright red, spawning kokanee salmon in the river and watch osprey and eagles “fishing” them. During this time, it can be good to target rainbow trout who come up river to eat kokanee eggs.

When's the best time to fish for kokanee?

  • April through May is the best time to catch kokanee in Wallowa Lake, although they can be caught year-around.

What is there to do at Wallowa Lake?

  • The short answer is- lots! We have mini-golf, go-karts, boat rentals and a tramway to wisk you to a restaurant over 8,000 feet up the mountain! For a good overview of the area and all of its attractions, including trails, seasonal events, restaurants and places to stay, we suggest visiting the website wallowalake.net where you may find answers to many of your questions as well as discover that you may need to plan a longer trip!

Where is the closest supermarket?

  • Safeway in Enterprise (13 miles north) is the closest supermarket, although there is a small but mighty market in Joseph called “Joseph Family Foods” which sells in-house smoked meats and cheeses. At the lake, a convenience store and restaurant called “Glacier Ridge” makes it easy to grab some snacks, as well as cold beer and a few basics. The Wallowa Lake Marina also sells drinks and snacks, and for those looking for specialty items there is also a heath food store in Enterprise called “Ruby Peak Naturals” which sells local seasonal veggies and has some gluten-free baked goods besides fantastic smoothies and lunches.

Are you open year-around?

  • No, we are a seasonal park, open from May-October. For winter camping, the State Park keeps a loop open (albeit without water) and several parks in Joseph offer off-season stays.
